Ireland’s Biggest Ever Banger Racing Meeting – Shamwreck ‘08

Nuttscorner Oval will host Ireland’s biggest ever Banger Racing event when over 80 cars contest the Shamwreck ’08 title for Unlimited cc National Bangers on Sunday April 27th. Already almost 40 of England’s top exponents have booked in to appear on what is sure to be a day of non-stop action. It will be smashes and crashes galore as the massive field are whittled down to one champion driver.

The infamous Bears team from England will return for their third visit to Nuttscorner Oval, having taken the spoils in last year’s event when Justin Riley claimed the title. They are well known throughout Europe as the hard hitters of Banger racing, and they destroyed all in their path in last year’s encounter. “Nutty” Nigel Riley and his crew are coming in even bigger numbers this time too, with a fantastic ten of their red, white and blue cars set to grace the raceway.

Making their Ulster debuts will be another of England’s top teams – Team Stinkbridge. They will field a massive 13 of their ludicrous pink coloured machines as they aim to take the Shamwreck crown back across the Irish Sea at their first attempt. The Levellers were also a hit last year, and Derek Jones’ North of England crew will be after the silverware this time around with their no-holds-barred racing attitude. Will the English stars claim the glory, or will they be the targets for the Nuttscorner regulars????

A sizeable contingent will also travel north from the Republic of Ireland for Shamwreck ‘08, and it is they who are the backbone of the National Bangers at Nuttscorner Oval. Team Savage, with quality pilots like Steven Reynolds, Ray McGrath and Fran Cassidy amongst their ranks, can never be discounted, both when the trophies or the hits are being handed out. The Last Rites, who include 2006 winner Darren Gaffney in their line up, The Keltic Allsorts, the Bad Boyz and The Assassins will also be in attendance from the Republic for what is sure to be an explosive afternoon of high-octane entertainment.

Leading the local Ulster charge will be Team Buckle. County Armagh’s Davy Patton and Marcus Watt will lead them into battle, and experience gained on a successful recent visit to Kings Lynn in Norfolk will stand them in good stead.

With 2.0 Hot Rods and Lightning Rods, both of which have produced excellent value for money so far this season, also on the bill, it promises to be an action packed session of short oval racing. First race gets underway at 2pm.
