Rivercity Youth Ministock Invitation
03 April 2011
Reporting by Roger Morrison and pictures by Mike Pollard
Palmerston North's Nic Davey put a classy
field to the sword on Sunday afternoon when claiming the River City Youth
Ministock Invitation title. With two wins and a second over the three heats
it was a case of the balance of the field fighting over the crumbs left on
offer. The win also buried the memory of Davey being unluckily denied the
chance of claiming the Craig Heibner Memorial Youth Ministock crown earlier
in the season.
Superstocks/Stockcars
Just the 5 Superstocks fronted as numbers in the elite class continued to
struggle at Oceanview- 3NZ Peter Rees again made the commitment to front
along with 45S Stephen Guilford and locals 6V Dion Mooney, 23V Scott Duncan
& 35V Mick Paul. Stockcar numbers were healthier with 14, although a number
of cars are starting to show the strain of a long and torrid season. The
Superstocks got just the one race before combining with the Stockcars off a
1 lap handicap. The talking point of the afternoon was the form of young
Asher Rees who got to drive his father's 2NZ tank - the result being three
wins including the Feature & Grand Slam. The 321V Hilton Parker car was
handed over to Stuart Smith for the afternoon and he showed that he had lost
none of his skills although the win in the Feature will not count as the car
was not carrying a transponder. Otherwise 36P Ron Tye did his best to mix
things up along with 63V Shane Joseph. 51V Sam Doyle almost managed to tip
76V Jason Wilson up & over in one event but the green machine managed to
land on it's wheels intact.
