Wanganui
Ray Purdy Memorial - Saloons
Sunday 16 March 2008
Pictures & reporting by Mike Pollard
Memorial races for Saloons and Superstocks were
the official feature .... but the feature event for most must surely have been the arrival
of the mighty Sprintcars to the Oceanview track.
Superstocks
64p Kev Smith was a late arrival and missed the first race. In the second Kev blasted off
the back of the clutch start grid and tore round the outside
into the infamous 1st turn, overtaking half the field in the process. I felt sure he was
going to be walled, but the move was so audacious, it took everyone by surprise. The
charge soon came to a halt however, after just one lap, when the car started billowing
smoke from the engine bay, and ended the day for #64p Smith.
