Wanganui - 15 April 2007
West Coast Superstock Champs
Pictures and reporting by Mike Pollard

Hello and welcome to Wanganui for the last of the seasons official fixtures at the Oceanview Speedway. Originally scheduled as two seperate meetings, the weather gods decided otherwise, and we ended up with the best parts of both, cut and shut into an excellent Sunday afternoon session.
A good crowd by Wanganui standards, although probably fair to say that most were drawn by the Demolition Derby rather than the West Coast Superstock Champs.

West Coast Superstock Champs

Heat 1
#56v Kerry Podjursky and Stratford visitor #818s Chris Hill led from the front row with #66v Kurt Jurgens trying to get on terms, while at the same time trying to keep out #5v Darryl Taylor. #56v Podjursky and #818s Hill had a great scrap for the lead with #56v Podjursky gaining the advantage. The scrap allowed #5v Taylor to join the fray, with #818s Hill climbing all over his bonnet when they tangled attempting to put a lap on #23v Scott Duncan.

1.#56v Kerry Podjursky 2.#66v Kurt Jurgens 3.#45v Steve Guilford 4.#282s Phil Ogle 5.#5v Darryl Taylor 6.#92v Adrian Barnes

Heat 2
#59b Tony True from Hawkes Bay was a latecomer and failed to get on the scoresheet following a tangle with #66v Kurt Jurgens. #45v Steve Guildford was impressive in what was a very fast race with minimal contact. The most memorable event, probably being the engine blow-up by #23v Scott Duncan, which looked pretty terminal.

1.#45v 2.#56v 3.#818s Chris Hill 4.#66v 5.#92v 6.nof

Heat 3
#818s Chris Hill and #92v Adrian Barnes both had good races up at the front before punctures dropped them down the order, with #818s Hill mixing it up with the leaders once his chance of victory was lost. points leader #56v Podjursky knew what was required, and was content to settle into 2nd place behind race winner #282s Phil Ogle.

Overall

Memorial Races
2 x memorial races were held for the stockcars/superstocks, which produced the following results:

Noel Kensington Memorial (all-in)
1.#282s 2.#45v 3.#56v 4.#1nz Gerry Linklater 5.#27v Joshua Annabell 6.#18v Tony James

George Podjursky Memorial (all-in)
1.#31p George Davis 2.#43v Shane Beech 3.#56v 4.#6v Dion Mooney 5.#45v 6.#16v Aaron Litlefair

Demolition Derby
By all accounts this was an exceptional Derby. It looked particularly good from where I was sat! My favourite bit was being pushed backwards down the back straight by a whole pack of cars. Many thanks to Bevan Johnston for the loan of the #59 car. Great stuff!
