Wanganui - 3 February 2007
Wanganui Tournament of Destruction VI - Derby Teams World Series
Pictures & reporting by Mike Pollard

The Stockcar Grand Prix beckoned, but a quality Banger field is such a rarity in N.Z. that
it was hard to go past my local track, especially when all the podium finishers in the
Wimbledon World Final are on the grid.

World Series 2007

UK v USA
The best of British lined up with captain #16 Bob Dunn, #18 Ian Webb, #158 Shane davies, #
213 Mark Watkins and #218 Lee Clelland. Team USA fronted with #0 Les Jogel, #6 Rob Laing, #7
Don Harter, #8 Tom Wertz and #9 Greg Wertz
Team USA put up a brave fight, but the superior skill of the Brits shone through to take the
honours.

Australia v Europe
Aussie had #50 Darrel Wanders, #51 Todd Nattrass, #52 Matt Cooney, #53 Peter Naughton (capt)
and #196 Joey Palmer. Team Europe lined up with captain #85 James Ellis, #88 Matt Fuller, #
208 Jim Randall, #285 Sean Dyer and #331 Jason Jackson.
As expected Australia were no match for the mighty big hitters of Europe.

3rd Place Eliminator
Australia v USA
With Australia having given their all against Europe, they were down to just 2 x cars,
Whilst USA had a full compliment of x 5. Mind you, they only just had x 5, as the last car
was placed onto the grid by a forklift, which had carried the car complete with driver all
the way from the pits!
It has to be said that the two x Aussies caused all kinds of bother for Team USA, and at one
stage it looked as if an upset was on the cards. In the end however, superior numbers
counted for a lot, as USA ran out the winners.

Final
Europe v UK
It was all on the line for the big two, with the victors gaining automatic entry into the
World Series Final in Auckland in a weeks time.
As one might expect, this was a real hard hitting affair, with no love lost between the "
Continentals".
The gold roof of World Champion #331 Jason Jackson acted like a magnet, and "Boxer Jack"
came in for a real pounding from the Brits. Without him, the European challenge faltered,
and Team UK went on to take what in the end became a relatively easy win.

N.Z. Teams Demo Derby Champs - Eliminators

Dirty Rottens Inc v Team Kaos
The draw meant that it was reigning New Zealand Champs, Dirty Rottens of Wanganui up against
the North Island Champs, Team Kaos from Wellington.
Some serious metal on display here from both teams, as Kaos ran out winners to progress,
whilst Dirty Rottens are left with the last chance eliminator.

Nu Generation v Takapau Terrors
A real hard fought affair this one, between the 2 x local rivals, with the Takapau Terrors
taking the win.

Last Chance Eliminator
Dirty Rottens Inc v Nu Generation
The 2 x losers from the heats match up, with the losers of this going home. Dirty Rottens,
really didn't have there game plan worked out, as Nu generation took the victory, leaving
the reigning champs with the wooden spoon.

Final
Takapau Terrors v Team Kaos
Automatic entry into tomorrow's Grand Final awaits the victors, and so a smashfest was
guaranteed as Wellington's Team Kaos booked their spot in the finals.

Consolation Final
Nu Generation v Takapau Terrors
A repeat of the earlier heat meant that the Takapau Terrors were favourites for the win.
However, another great battle saw the fortunes reversed, as Nu Generation overcame their
adversary to join Team Kaos in tomorrow's showdown.
