Stratford - 2 January 2007
Taranaki Superstock Champs

Pictures & reporting by Mike Pollard

Hello and welcome to Stratford's third meeting within a week.
Tonight's feature event being the Taranaki Superstock Champs.
With visitors from Auckland, Huntly, Napier, Palmerston North and Wanganui joining Stratford's Superstock brigade, this was going to be a hard fought affair.

Heat 1
Visitor and front row starter #33h Callum McCloud showed his hand early and blasted off the front of the grid. #33p Craig Rolsten, #182s Paul Johnson and defending champion #35s Neville Nolly were fighting over second, but it was left to #45v Steve Guilford to break free from the pack and give a forlorn chase to #33h McCloud. In an extremely fast race, the positions were filled by those mentioned with a fast moving #15s Steve Behl making the frame from the rear end of the grid.

Heat 2
More bumperwork in this one, but the track was still very fast as front row starters witnessed different fortunes. #182s Paul Johnson streaked away at the front whilst #22s Brent Pascoe was swallowed by the pack including the likes of #75a Dave Tennant who was mixing it with #15s Steve Behl, #33p Craig Rolsten and #45v Steve Guilford.

Heat 3
Going into the final heat there's nothing much between the leaders as #33p Craig Rolsten and #182s Paul Johnson are tied at the top with #45v Steve Guilford a point behind, with #33h Callum McCloud a further point back.
This time it was champion #35s Neville Nolly's turn to launch off the front, but this time was different as the leader was caught by the impressive #15s Steve Behl. No doubt #35s Neville Nolly could feel the silverware slipping away as he was then caught by #75a Dave Tennant before mixing it up with #33p Craig Rolsten and #95s Brian Booker. #182s Paul Johnson was storming his way through the grid when the reds were called for, after #33h Callum McCloud's title hopes literally came crashing to an end into the pits gate, after which the field became well strung out.

Overall
A great night's racing from the Superstocks, and although #35s Nolly couldn't keep hold of the title, Stratford honour was upheld with the title going to #182s Paul Johnson.
