Stratford - Friday 30 December 2005
Saloon Car Series

Report and pictures by Mike Pollard

The Saloon Car Speedweek which sees the Saloons race all over the North Island at six venues in seven days were on leg four of the journey at Stratford speedway.
The country's only real travelling show had the best from 8 x different tracks on show to fight it out for the overall purse of $25,000.
2 x reverse grid heats, after which the top 8 x drivers race in a fastest at the back race to decide who starts on grid #8 in the feature, behind the cars who didn't make the top 8. A format which i'm sure makes sense to somebody.

Heat 1
#17m Tony Heuvell and #71m Johno McClymont race side by side for the lead as #21h Steve Wiliams and #63a Nige Moet do the same for third..............unfortunately all my race notes after this point have been eaten by the cat!

1.#17m Tony Heuvell 2.#21h Steve Williams 3.#98h Greg Powell 4.#9p Mike Hermansen 5.#48m Phillip Towgood 6.#63a Nige Moet

Heat 2
1.#28w Owen Larsen 2.#48m 3.#77k Rosco Cresswell 4.#4s Ash Cook 5.#9p 6.#98h

Top 8
The most successfull drivers after the 2 x heats were the Mount Manganui pairing of #17m Tony Heuvell and #48m Phillip Towgood who had to start at the back and managed to progress to places 4th and 5th.

1.#28w 2.#98h 3.#21h 4.#17m 5.#48m 6.#9p

Feature
Victory for #48m Phillip Towgood with a sterling drive from well down the grid rounded out the evenings racing.

1.#48m 2.#21h 3.#17m 4.#63a 5.#28w 6.#77k

Superstocks
Well there's even less to report here as the class were sensibly stood down, as the fixture was run right in between the Grand Prix and the North Island Champs.
However, immediately after the meeting finished, three cars took to the track for a bit of a spin, including the bodyless #53s Aidan O'Hanlan car and long time legend #75a Dave Tennant eager to get in some practice for the upcoming North Island Champs.
