Of course this meeting was held 50 years to the day since the first-ever UK Stock Car Meeting at New Cross in London and it is pleasing to report that excellent weather, car turnouts and racing in all three classes meant the event certainly lived up to expectations.
This mix of formulae is unique in the racing calendar to this meeting but there are other things about this event which make it something special. There's the annual invasion of Midlands based F2 drivers onto the south-western home turf and my guess is if the top scores from each 'side' were added up then it would show the force of Midlands F2 power! Okay, so there's something for a statitician to prove, one way or the other! But there's also the odd long distance traveller in search of World Qualifying points and there were Scottish representatives in all three classes, one of whom, Gordon Alexander cleaned up with a last bend win to take the Hampshire Championship. Amazingly in the Hot Rods we witnessed four races with no stoppages! While Autospeed promote this meeting it is great to see staff from both promotions working together. Last but by no means least there were the Barry Lee vs George Polley Match Races. A joy to see and they went down very well with the large crowd. More worrying were some stories of pending housebuilding plans which will need to be looked into and all-being well seen off!
