| 2003 - A Review! So how has 2003 been? Pretty good its seems as most formulas seem to have
had good car turnouts and crowds we hear have been up. After too many years in the
doldrums tarmac racing in the BriSCA F1s really picked up during 2003 with all the
indicators promising even more of the same in 2004. We saw a new promoting team at
Coventry resulting in much badly needed investment and the welcome return of Banger
racing. Also a 'well done' to Startrax for introducing racing to Workington. Two
drivers, Roy Goodman and Horry Barnes both celebrated there fiftieth years as stock car
drivers, a truly amazing achievement!
On the downside we had the really tragic loss of Raymond Gunn in an accident at
Cowdenbeath and late-on during the year, car racing was lost at Alwalton. While Alwalton
was not one of the country's main circuits it is a loss we could have done without and one
wonders what might be done to offer greater protection to existing tracks, and indeed how
new ones might be opened up in the future.
As far as this website is concerned then 2003 was its busiest year by some margin. There
have been over 300,000 visitors to the homepage and in the region of 2 million pageviews
in total. This is around a 50% increase on 2002. The News service has been improved and in
the Summer, in response to popular demand, a new For Sale/ Wanted page was introduced.
This has proven to be extremely popular generating lots of visitor and trading interest.
At any point in time Rolling Start contains in excess of 5,000 pages covering racing
across the country - and beyond - giving exposure 24/7 to most of the race classes -
whether National or Domestic- promoters and tracks across the land.
The site content is all original in the sense that only material supplied directly for
inclusion in Rolling Start is published and its success relies on those people who very
generously supply material for inclusion. So a big thankyou is in order to those people in
particular. If anyone reading this would like to join the team then do please get in touch
as you would be most welcome.
Having featured many thousands of pictures its no easy job to pick a small number for this
gallery! Rather than try to pick the most spectacular crashes an attempt has been to pick
a variety of pictures which will - hopefully - give a flavour and bring back a few
memories from what has been a superb years racing. |
