Qualifying night can sometimes be a bit tame at major stockcar events .......but the 105 cars present put on a display to remember, with the night being described as one of the best 1st night shows seen at Palmerston.

Apart from the crashes, the most memorable moment came late on, when Gerry Linklater from Wanganui baulked and blocked a Wellington car to a huge cheer from the crowd.  Trouble was; most of it was done on the grass!  Such crowd pleasing exploits earning Gerry a large fine and a three week suspension.
