Palmerston North - 9 December 2006
Manawatu Superstock Champs

Superstocks

Heat 1
#4p Joel Pitcher and lone visitor #54w Mike Pye were first to show, with #61p Gary Trotter and #8p Scott Miers battling for position behind. First to retire was #98p Craig Humphries while #8p Miers was on a charge and looking like his old self as he won the battle with #61p Trotter and then was up past #54w Pye and chasing down the leader #4p Pitcher.
Last lap, and #4p Pitcher was having trouble putting a lap on #31p Andy McCabe, allowing #8p Miers to close on the leaders bumper. Last bend, and #8p Miers shows why he is the southern hemisphere's own living legend by completely wiping out leader #4p Pitcher, sending him up the wall so hard that the rebounding car managed to take out front runners #54w Pye, #7p Shane Penn and #71p Kim Lace. Both #4p Pitcher and #7p Penn failing to record a finish despite being inches from the line.

1.#8p Scott Miers 2.#61p Gary Trotter 3.#68p Kelvin Grey 4.#10p Peter Rees 5.#33p Craig Rolsten 6.#2nz Wayne Hemi

Heat 2
#42p Robin Davenport was the early leader from #7p Shane Penn, but by the end of lap 1 it was #7p Penn ahead of #71p Kim Lace with #42p Davenport third. the big mover in this frantically fast race was #68p Kelvin Grey who had raced into second and was holding off the likes of #71p Lace, #10p Peter Rees and #2nz Wayne Hemi who had flown in from Australia's Gold Coast especially for this event.

1.#7p Shane Penn 2.#68p 3.#2nz 4.#71p Kim Lace 5.#10p 6.#61p

Heat 3
Going into the final heat, top points scorer #68p Kelvin Grey has a 2 x point advantage over #61p Gary Trotter, with the likes of #8p Miers, #10p Rees and #2nz Hemi right behind.
On the green, a huge charge sees #10p Rees, #33p Craig Rolsten and defending champion #58 Peter Bengston all do battle for the lead. #8p Miers chances evaporate after an early spin, and now with no chance of winning, circulates slowly before picking up #61p Trotter and drilling him into the wall. In fairness #61p Trotter dealt with the assault extremely well, but a leaking tyre valve would now drop him down the order and would eventually force his retirement. At the front #10p Rees and #58p Bengston were swapping positions up until the last lap when #94p Barry Podjursky launched himself with almighty force at #8p Miers, sending the tank high up the wall, and suffering roll cage damage on it's return to earth, when hit by #61p Trotter who found himself with nowhere to go.

1.#58p Peter Bengston 2.#10p 3.#7p 4.#68p 5.#71p 6.#31p Andy McCabe

Overall
A great win for "semi-retired" #68p Kelvin Grey who was the fastest guy on the night, and all done in a borrowed car.
1.#68p 54pts 2.#10p 52pts 3.#71p 46pts
