Winged Thunder #1

Pictures & reporting by Mike Pollard
I remember the first time I came here.......and reporting that facilities were rather
basic.
But unbeknown to me at the time, was the fact that the "practice track" was just
taking shape, and that it was located, literally in the owners back garden.
I remember saying that the track was fabulous and that there was a sausage
sizzle.......and asking what more could you want?
Well, if you are the owners/promoters, and Sprintcar fanatics; Brent & Denise Harris,
the answer is an awful lot more!
Hello and welcome to the Grand Opening meeting of Harrisville Speedway.
They all said it couldn't be done ........you can't run an outlaw meeting on a Sunday
afternoon ..... no Sprintcar drivers will turn up to an outlaw track ..........the crowd
won't come on a sunday .... etc etc.
Well the car count would have put a lot of tracks to shame..........and the crowd exceeded
all expectations, as they gathered to witness #66m Skinny Colson taking the laurels at the
opening event.
The facility has come a long way in a short time, and boasts a superb on-site museum (by
appointment) as well as a themed "outlaw village" and on race day had a fully
licenced beer tent..... so er ......what more could you want??
