New Rallycross Circuit - Newmarket - 26 February 2004
Pictures and reporting by Smiffyman (Dave Smith). Tel 07885 281327

I know that Rallycross is liked by many oval racing fans so news of this new track is likely to be of considerable interest interest.  Dave Smith reports ..

"I managed to get to the press launch of a new Rally Cross track today 26 February. The track lies just outside Newmarket on the side of the A11, just off the Red Lodge Roundabout. It has been built by David Haird (Chris’s father HR115) and Malcolm Forbes from Waltham Services was on hand all day to keep the proceeding running smoothly.

The Rally cross track is built in a disused quarry next to an off road and motocross track that have been there for some time. The surface was superb, the tarmac looked like the M25 before it was opened, and the loose sections had been very well prepared. The whole venue has huge potential and is a credit to the guys who have spent a lot of time putting the site together.

There were about 7 cars that turned up today, and we even got Malcolm Foskett in one for a passenger ride. (Kevin McCann’s blue Subaru). It’s a great place to take photos and when the rest of the infrastructure is put in it will also be great for spectators. All in all a great day out, my thanks to David, Chris and Sarah Haird for their hospitality, and Malcolm Forbes for giving me an insight to what will be a great new racing venue."
