Superstock Extravaganza 2nd Leg
Pictures & reporting by Mike Pollard
Time for the big one! Coopers Horticulture
Superstock Extravaganza, with a total prize fund of around twenty thousand pounds spread
over two legs.
Drama from the off, as #119r Kerry Remnant was pushed on to the centre before the start.
Green flag, as #69p Roydon Collingwood and #31b Andy McCabe made an early break before the
reds were out to collect debris from the #22r Wayne Talbot car which hed been walled
rather hard. On the restart #69p Collingwood was pulling further ahead, with #54w Mike Pye
and #66r Kelvin Gray up past #31b McCabe. #65b John Hynd retired with a smoking engine
just as the reds came out again for #92r Kyle Fraser. #69p Collingwood was racing on his
own, as behind him a tremendous three way scrap developed between #54w Pye, #66r Gray and
#31b McCabe, with positions swapping on every lap. Time for another red, as #9p Brett
Hyslop found himself somersaulting down the back straight in front of the huge crowd,
before #69p Collingwood continued untroubled to the flag.

#22r Wayne Talbot was eager to avoid the wall, and shot off into an early lead as the reds
came out for #10b Dave Bartholemew who flipped on turn 4. On the restart, #515r Stan
Hickey and #89r Dale Robertson were up front with #22r Talbot, as #77b Shane Penn showed
an amazing turn of speed and simply drove round the outside of all of 'em and into the
lead. #515r Stan Hickey was holding his own in second until joined by #51r Rodney Wood who
was on a real charge. The bumps, which were all over the place, were most evident in turn
1, with #515r Hickey especially, getting the most air over the "ramp jump"
allowing #51r Wood to move up another spot. A very quick and close race with #77b Penn
showing his class.

Team tactics, which had started to show in heat2, were about to come to the fore. #5p
Bruce Ward was quick out of the gate before #515r Stan Hickey got even more air, as he was
squeezed coming off turn 4, and the only way out was up, as a rollover put paid to the
nights ambitions. #5p Ward was still in front, but 2nd placeman #74r Jeff Mohi was about
to struggle with a flat tyre, as both #51r Rodney Wood and #89r Dale Robertson moved
closer to the front. #38r Ross Ashby made his mark as he smashed into leader #5p Ward,
taking him well and truly out of contention. 2 x laps later and #38r Ashby is circulating
slowly again, looking for more prey. This time however, i can only assume he got it all
wrong as he turned into team-mate #89r Dale Robertson who was running 2nd up to this
point. #69p Roydon Collingwood was left to chase #51r Wood, but was a long way back at the

Over the two legs, #51r Rodney Wood was announced the winner, and presumably took the
lions share of the spoils on a superb night which saw good formulas, all racing with good
grids in front of a packed house.
