Kihikihi - 21 May 2006
King Country Superstocks
Pictures & reporting by Mike Pollard

Hello and welcome to Kihikihi for the final offering of season 05SNZ06.
A sunny Autumn day and a large crowd saw the running of the much postponed King Country Super Stock Champs, and with 19 x cars from far and wide taking to the track (apparently the most at Kihikihi for 10 years!), this was going to take some winning.
The track surface could best be described as "very rough", which was a big improvement on the treacherous conditions of a couple of weeks ago!

Superstocks
A reverse grid format for the first two heats, with a one-off, winner take all, fastest at the front, grand final.

Heat 1
#5h Gavin Entwistle was first to show, ahead of #33p Craig Rolsten and #75a Dave Tennant. A couple of laps in, and #71k Tony Wooton is up to third, whilst #33p Rolsten moves past #5h Entwistle for the lead. #71k Wooten continues the charge, and together with #82s Paul Johnson, demote #5h Entwistle a couple of spots further. A mistake by #33p Rolsten mid-race, sees him lose the lead, as both #71k Wooton and #82s Johnson ease past for 1st and 2nd.

Heat 2
The Huntly duo of #816h Wayne Lucey and #86h Kris Allen were up front early, before the storming #71k Tony Wooton muscled his way onto the scene, and into the lead with #86h Allen tucked in behind and driving in his wake. A brief stoppage for the red lights, as #77k Ryan Johnstone was removed from track, which saw #71k Wooton and #86h Allen a long way clear. Battling behind in a three way scrap were #816h Lucey, #99a Mark Decke and #11b Nigel Cooper who was flying high over the bumps.

Final
With 2 x wins, it was no surprise to see #71k Tony Wooton on pole, with #99a Mark Decke alongside. Row 2 comprised #816h Wayne Lucey and #33p Craig Rolsten.
On the green #71k Wooten started where he had left off, and leapt into an early lead with #816h Lucey in tow. Behind these two, #86h Kris Allen and #75a Dave Tennant fought for third, with #86h Allen getting the upper hand, before being forced to retire late in the race. Up front there was little to impede the progress of #71k Wooton, who made it three from three, ahead of #816h Lucey, with #82s Paul Johnson moving well, and up into 3rd by race end.
