SUPER STOCK CARS
Pictures and report by Dave Carter
This was my third visit to Bercy although the first for
some years. Its a great weekend, combining a very entertaining race meeting with the
sights of Paris and one which is highly recommended.
The Super Stock Cars are internally armoured and are mainly small cars up to Escort/Astra
type size although at this meeting there was a Chevy. The race meeting is run very
efficiently but is completely different to a UK race meeting with masses of marshals
running onto the track after the very frequent rollovers. It all looks a bit chaotic but
it seems very effective and drivers respond very quickly to flag signals.
Two events were run. The Grand Prixe De France for French drivers only run with three
groups of cars racing two heats each followed by two consolations and a Grand Final.
The Coupe D'Europe is the international event featuring drivers from Austria, Belgium,
France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Luxembourg and Switzerland. The British team
comprised 15 Clive Hardy, 16 Rob Barber and 17 S Cachia. Unfortuneately we only achieved
one placing in the two heats and none of our cars made the final! The Dutch were in top
form though with Toon Schut doing well in the early part of the meeting and #7 R Soer
taking the flag in the final achievement despite a spin out and taking time to deliver a
good hit on the opposition!
As you can see from the results there were 12 races with up to 24 cars in each race. The
meeting started at 8pm and was finished by 11.30pm.
The promoters of this event run a series of meeting during the summer and details acn be
found on their website at this address:
